An annual awards ceremony showcasing Haverhill’s commitment to the apprentice scheme has been declared a great success.
The ONE Haverhill Partnership Apprenticeship Awards paid tribute to young apprentices who have benefitted from the scheme – and local employers who have shown equal commitment and dedication.
This year’s event, which took place at main sponsors Sanofi on Friday, was the biggest awards yet in terms of number of individual entries and the wealth of apprentices across many sectors.
Corran Barnes, from The Secret Garden, was crowned Apprentice of the Year while Argent Building Company Ltd was Apprentice Employer of the Year – a deserved reward for their commitment to apprentices dating back to the 1970s.
To recognise the strength and number of applications, three individual Highly Commended Awards were also handed out to Reece Andrews, from Havabuild Ltd, Jack Hunsdon, from DB Sheetmetals Ltd, and Paulina Rozentalska from CXG Group.
John Mayhew, chair of ONE Haverhill Partnership, said: “We would like to congratulate every single nominee, both individual and employer, for their fantastic hard work and commitment to the apprenticeship scheme.
“I think it is fitting that as we celebrate five years of ONE Haverhill Partnership promoting apprenticeship opportunities in our town that we have enjoyed our biggest event to date.”
For the first time ever, the event - which was attended by around 60 apprentices, employers and local dignitaries - also included a Special Recognition Award.
The inaugural winner was Karen Chapple, the youth skills manager at ONE Haverhill Partnership, who has helped promote more than 250 apprentice opportunities in the first five years of the scheme.
Karen said: “I was humbled, and more than a little bit surprised, to receive this award.
"I would just like to thank all the companies and apprentices and everyone else who has supported us over the last five years.”
Jim Moretta, site head of main sponsors Sanofi, said: “We were delighted to once again lend our support to this very special and very important event.”
