Feedback about the scheme
"...It's also great to hear about the network of community ambassadors which are being recruited to keep Haverhill looking at its best - local people taking control of their neighbourhood are what Neighbourhood Community Budgets are all about..."
Rt Hon Don Foster MP
Would you be willing to give an hour or two to look after your local community?
The Community Ambassadors scheme aims to recruit up to 50 volunteers to be the 'eyes and ears' for the town, identifying and reporting problems such as potholes, faulty street lights, abandoned vehicles, graffiti and fly-tipping.
The scheme was launched following the consultation on the Haverhill Community Budget Plan, during which members of the public told ONE Haverhill that they wanted to be able to do more to help keep their local community maintained. In fact almost half of those surveyed said they would volunteer for activities if they knew it would make a positive difference for Haverhill, and the Community Ambassadors scheme will do just that.
Volunteers will also be able to carry out minor remedial work, including litter picking and cutting back overgrowth on the highway.
The scheme is run and supported by Community Action Suffolk and the Ambassadors are able to carry out minor repairs where they want and are able to, supported by Haverhill Town Council and with funding provided by Suffolk County Council.
