John Mayhew was last week elected to take over from Sarah Howard who is stepping down after three years as chairman.
Mr Mayhew, executive chairman of Fiscale Ltd, said he now wanted to build on the many success stories achieved by the partnership, which brings together various organisations and community leaders to work together for the good of Haverhill. He said:
“I want to do the best possible job on behalf of ONE Haverhill Partnership and the people of Haverhill.
“The Partnership is a fantastic group of people with great experience who are all working together to come up with solutions to make Haverhill an even better place to live and work.
“The Haverhill Masterplan is a great example of what an organisation like ONE Haverhill Partnership can achieve.”
ONE Haverhill Partnership has outlined the Haverhill Town Centre Masterplan, health and wellbeing, education and training and tackling crime and anti-social behavior as key priorities going forward – and Mr Mayhew said:
“I want to see all the core task groups have a long-term strategy but also come up with short-term outcomes that can be realised.
“ONE Haverhill Partnership is exactly the right vehicle to nudge agencies and organisations along to help bring about real changes that will make a difference to people’s lives.”
Mr Mayhew takes over from Mrs Howard, who pledged to continue promoting the town. Mrs Howard said:
“It has always been great to be involved in ONE Haverhill Partnership and contribute to something that has made a real difference to the town.
“All the members have pulled together in the same direction for the good of the town and I must thank them all for their support.
“It was a hard decision stepping down, but I know I am leaving it in very good hands. There are now other ways I can be useful to Haverhill – including my roles at West Suffolk College and Abbeycroft Leisure as well as Suffolk Chamber of Commerce and the British Chamber of Commerce.”
Mrs Howard pointed to the success of the youth skills and apprenticeship scheme as particular highlights of her time at the helm. She added:
“It is quite something to walk around the town and see young people working and blossoming because of what ONE Haverhill Partnership has done.
“We have established a culture of apprenticeships in Haverhill and supporting our young people into work.”
