Bringing youth services under one roof

23 February 2015

ONE Haverhill has welcomed plans by Haverhill Town Council to look at alternative buildings to provide ONE Haverhill's vision of bringing youth services under one roof.

At a Town Council meeting last night (Tuesday 27 January), councillors decided to stop work on plans to redevelop the former Magistrates Court in Camps Road and look at alternative sites such as Bevan House in Camps Road, the Corn Exchange and also a proposed extension to the Haverhill Arts Centre.

In the meantime, the council has decided to seek existing space in the town to provide youth activities and a separate space for education and skills work whilst long-term proposals are being investigated.

Town Planning experts appointed

23 February 2015

ONE Haverhill has appointed a team of town planning and urban design experts, led by David Lock Associates, to produce a masterplan for Haverhill town centre. The masterplan is being led by ONE Haverhill, with support from the statutory planning authority St Edmundsbury Borough Council and the wide range of community organisations that make up ONE Haverhill.

The main purpose of the masterplan will be to help implement the Haverhill Vision 2031, making the town centre a more attractive and vibrant place for residents, businesses and visitors. The Haverhill Vision 2031 was produced following an extensive process of engagement and consultation and was subsequently adopted by St Edmundsbury Council in September 2014 to help inform proposals in the town centre. The masterplan is being prepared as a formal 'supplementary planning document' with the aim of it also being adopted by St Edmundsbury Borough Council.

In order to achieve the implementation of the Haverhill Vision 2031 the masterplan will focus primarily on delivery. A range of issues will be examined including the type and mix of uses that could be accommodated in the town centre, how people move around the town centre, and ways that town centre streets and spaces (the 'public realm') can be enhanced and made more attractive. The masterplan will also identify a range of projects that can deliver beneficial change for Haverhill and build on the success of existing investment in the town.
